Day 4: And winter returns to Erie...

Shout out to my grandson!  What up Iggy! Listen to your Yaya. (I sleep in the top bunk of yesterday's photo by the way)

And now on to the show...

Some crew swear they saw snow.  I didn't.  And, the rain held off until 5 minutes before the end of the work day - Huzzah!

Start with a term for the day right off the get go?  An old stand by (as if I would know):  Avast.  Avast is a command, usually, that basically means stop - immediately.  Oh, don't take your hands off the line and keep pressure on any work you are doing, but stop.  Anybody can say this anytime there is an immanent danger.  It works.  I haven't had to say it but I hear it all the time.

How about a couple photos?  Thought I would switch it up and show a couple shots of the inside of the shop.  The shop is the basement - and subbasement - of the museum.  The museum is built in an old Penelec (electric company) power generation station.  The generator (and control panel) are part of the museum still.  So its old and creepy - and some of the crew say haunted.  Hope I get to find out.  If i get a photo of a ghost that will definitely go up on the blog.

This is Cutter 2.  It is in the woodshop being worked on because it got twisted hanging in the davits (hmmm, word-of-the-day potential there...).  The Guy on the left is Chief Mate (second in command of the ship), David Goldman.  He actually helped build this iteration of the Niagara back in the mid 1980s.

This is just a cool old ship saw the museum has.  Instead of the table moving, like most band saws, the whole head (the mechanism with the blade) moves to allow for angled cutting (I'm looking at you Mr. Scott).

Just a general shop of the leather working area in the subbasement.  Not super exciting but in the background you can see the old condenser for the electric power generator (not sure if you can tell but its about 15' in diameter or so)

Well gonna go thaw out and then I think practice some of my knots so I can be more useful to the crew.  I think I am getting the Bolen down and the gasket coil.

Thanks for reading and let me know what you think or if you have any questions.

Ahoy
