Instead this is what actually happened:
Second day in the bag. Quite literally - I am ready to crawl in my sleeping bag. We managed to get almost all of the cover off the boat except the crickets on the shrouds (sailor lingo! see photo below).
Which brings me to my message for the day - holy mackerel (no pun intended) is their a lot of lingo I need to learn to keep up. It is cool but almost learning another language: shroud, aft, stern, avast, on-deck, spike, ridge, berth deck, float and more. And you may think you know what some of these terms mean but you would likely not know what a sailor means when he/she says them. Maybe I can have a term-a-day lesson for the blog.
Today's lesson - shroud: the part of the ship to the port and starboard of the masts that look a little like triangle spider webs whose job it is to support the masts.
Hey let's look at some pics man:
This is the Niagara with its winter cover on.
This is the ship after our work today - note the shroud crickets still on.
Not much picture wise but I have only been here about 24 hours and have been really busy. I will get some additional photos up as time goes on.
There were tours on the ship today as we were working so if you are in the area stop by and get the real history of the Brig Niagara.
I'll have more for you tomorrow.
Ahoy
